How to migrate from another ESP to Intempt

Overview

Intempt is a growth marketing platform that combines email, SMS, and push notifications with deep analytics and personalization. It helps businesses engage users, optimize conversions, and manage multi-channel campaigns.

This article guides you through migrating your subscribers, email templates, automation flows, and engagement data from another ESP to Intempt, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal data loss.

Before You Start

Before migrating, ensure you:

  1. Identify the ESP you are migrating from (e.g., Mailchimp, HubSpot, Constant Contact).
  2. Decide which data to migrate: subscriber lists, forms, email templates, automation flows, and behavioral engagement data.
  3. Review Intempt’s prebuilt SendGrid integration for email delivery and analytics.

📘

Important: When using the SendGrid integration, check the box to include the last 90 days of email engagement data (opens and clicks). This ensures Intempt has historical engagement information to improve personalization and targeting.

Key Guidelines

  1. Update Website Forms: Replace all subscription forms on your site so new subscribers are collected in Intempt. Any old forms still pointing to your previous ESP will cause data fragmentation.
  2. Redirect Integrations: Ensure all external integrations (e.g., Shopify, Facebook Lead Ads, custom forms) feed subscriber data into Intempt.
  3. Sync Existing Subscribers: Use Intempt's CSV imports to import all current subscribers, including active, inactive, and unsubscribed users.
  4. Include Engagement History via SendGrid: Enable the option to import the last 90 days of opens and clicks from SendGrid. This historical data helps Intempt:
    • Maintain accurate engagement metrics.
    • Improve segmentation and personalization.
    • Avoid sending to unengaged subscribers without context.
  5. Migrate Automation Flows: Recreate your welcome series, abandoned cart flows, and other automation sequences in Intempt. Take advantage of Intempt’s multi-channel automation to combine email, SMS, Slack, and push notifications for richer engagement.
  6. Import Templates: Bring over email templates or use Intempt’s drag-and-drop editor to rebuild them with modern personalization features.
  7. Segment Your Audience: Create segments based on user activity, engagement history, and behavior. Start campaigns with highly engaged users first to protect your sender reputation and improve deliverability.

Best Practices

  • Clean Your Lists: Remove inactive or invalid emails to maintain deliverability.
  • Test Campaigns: Send test emails or small campaigns to verify personalization, engagement tracking, and multi-channel automation.
  • Monitor Deliverability and Engagement: Track opens, clicks, unsubscribes, and bounces. Adjust campaigns based on historical engagement data imported from SendGrid.
  • Leverage Personalization: Use Intempt’s AI-powered analytics to tailor messages to individual user behavior across channels.

Outcome

After completing these steps, your Intempt account will replace your previous ESP entirely.

You will have:

  • Fully operational email campaigns via SendGrid integration.
  • Historical engagement data (last 90 days) for accurate segmentation and personalization.
  • Multi-channel automation flows (email, SMS, push) built for real-time engagement.
  • Subscriber management, analytics, and campaign optimization all within Intempt.
